Conditions ⓘ

Use a suitable LED and prevent upward spill. Keep light low, shielded and on only when needed. Suitability depends on placement and the surrounding habitat; color alone is not enough.

Turtle friendlyRequires monochromatic amber ⓘ

Choose monochromatic amber, not 2700K warm white. Keep the source low and fully shielded, with no light visible from or spilling onto the beach. Check local requirements for the installation. This badge is conditional guidance, not a certification.

Choosing an LED color

A welcoming, warm appearance for outdoor living spaces, paths and planting.

An amber option for wildlife-conscious projects. The right choice depends on the habitat and species you are designing around.

Color alone does not determine wildlife suitability. Direction, intensity, timing and habitat matter too.

The light, its use and its story

Machined from solid brass and built to spend its life outdoors, the Noctule sends its light exactly where it belongs - downward. Nothing is thrown up into the night sky, and there's no wasteful spill to disturb the wildlife that shares your landscape after dark. Just a clean, even wash of light across the ground.

Its wide 90-degree output makes it ideal for washing pathways and softscapes, laying down a soft, continuous pool of light rather than harsh hotspots. It works just as well on steps and level changes, where gentle wayfinding matters more than brightness. The solid brass arrives pre-patinated, so it settles into the planting from day one - no waiting for it to weather in, and no bright new fixture standing out against an established yard.

The noctule is Britain's largest bat - out early, flying high and open above the treeline. A fitting name for our brightest fixture.

Every Hudson fixture takes its name from the British landscape after dark - its creatures, its plants, and the old country words for dusk.

Questions about Noctule

Which LED colors are available in the U.S.?
For the U.S. range, you can choose 2700K warm white or monochromatic amber. Select your preferred LED color when configuring the light.
Is this light FWC approved?
Technically speaking, none of the lights on the FWC approval list are approved any longer. FWC did their last approval in 2022 and state a clear 2 year validity period. It's impossible to get on the list now, as the FWC is short-staffed and haven't reopened certification. We do use the same LED chip as one of the older, originally approved lights on the FWC list.
What bulb does this fitting take?
It's an intergrated LED - that is user-replaceable! We supply the replaceable LED's beyond their 10 year warranty for as little as £14/$17
